Introductory Blog Post: About Dr. Andy Park
Hello everyone, my name is Dr. Andy Park, and I am the new owner and chiropractic physician at Northcenter Healthcare. I’m very excited to meet and care for each one of you! I figured that if I am going to be taking care of your neuro-musculoskeletal needs, it would be good to know a little bit about me.
Going all the way back to the beginning, I was born in Seoul, South Korea and lived there until my family and I immigrated to the greater Chicagoland area when I was three. From a young age, I was very intrigued with movement. I climbed, ran, jumped, and unlike some, this love of movement followed me through my entire life. This passion has led me to dabble in kick boxing, track and field, volleyball, breakdancing, gymnastics, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and most recently, bouldering and rock climbing.
Kinesiology and Personal Training
I pursued my passion for movement in an academic setting by attending the University of Illinois at Chicago to study Kinesiology. After graduating, I further honed my knowledge of human movement and health as a personal trainer at a corporate gym in the Merchandise Mart in the River North neighborhood. As I continued to work there, I could not help but wonder if there was more I could do for my clients. I had noticed movement compensations across many of them that I realized was out of my scope to address, so I started considering avenues I could pursue to get to the next level of caring for the human body and its functions.
I started researching chiropractic based on my father’s positive experience with his own chiropractor. The more I learned about it, the more I felt that this was my true calling, so I left my personal training job to pursue my Doctor of Chiropractic degree. On top of that, I have taken extensive course work in functional/sports rehabilitation and am always reading about the newest and best methods of returning and improving function.
During my time as an associate chiropractor, I also worked with many pregnant and postpartum women. Thanks to that experience, I am passionate about helping women in this stage of their lives have a healthy, pain-free pregnancy, as well as a safe and timely return to regular activities after the baby arrives.
Movement is Medicine
I truly believe that movement is medicine, but more importantly, movement is life. If I can provide the education and care to allow the people around me to continue moving and living a full life, then I truly believe that I will have accomplished my life’s true calling. I consider it an honor to treat you and that you would trust me with your health. I do not take that lightly, and with that in mind, I am excited to get you all moving towards being the healthiest you possible.
